Video Madness

Happy Harvest!

I have the incredible opportunity and pleasure of doing visualizations at Harvest Festival this year. It’s one of the best parties of the year according to NOW magazine and draws thousands of people from all over to come to celebrate the end of the summer. The past Harvest Festivals have been amazing and no doubt, this one will top them all! *happydance*

Just for the record

Monday, June 16th, 2008 | Author:

I have been wanting to listen to my record collection for some time now, and yesterday Rick and I went to Moog Audio to purchase a pre-amp for my turntable (our 10 yr old tuner didn’t have the proper fixins, imagine!), so for the past day I’ve been wandering down Penny Lane, past Strawberry Fields towards Shakedown Street, which is near where Sonny and Cher and KISS live. Through the 50’s, 60’s, 70’s and 80’s – 4 decades of vinyl have waited to be played once again. A few of the albums I’ve missed listening to over the years include:

  • George Harrison’s special release Goddess of Fortune, full of devotional songs to Govinda and Gopala, recorded with the help from the devotees at the Radha Krsna Temple in London, UK
  • NUNSEXMONKROCK by Nina Hagen (a divine goddess in her own right!)
  • Soul Mining by The The (awesome album!)
  • Count Basie and Sammy Davis: Our Shining Hour, arranged and conducted by Quincy Jones (!)
  • Adam and the Ants: Kings of the Wild Frontier (hot!)
  • Vivaldi! Mozart! Tchaikovsky!
  • Original recording of Around the World in 80 days (c) 1957!
  • Fun Boy Three and The Colourfield (*sigh* Terry Hall)
  • POPPA’S GOT A BRAND NEW PIGBAG! (takes me back to the The New Music with Jeanne Becker and JD Roberts – I’m old)
  • Visage: the Anvil (sweet gothic music)
  • The Cure: The Head On The Door (Classic!)
  • Psychic TV: Dreams Less Sweet (with Always is Always, a song written by Charles Manson)

I’m sure there are a few more, I have some interesting albums for sure 🙂 YAY for MUSIC!! *happydance*

addendum: wow, I’m surprised at myself for remembering lyrics of songs I haven’t heard in 20 or more years!

Around and around

Thursday, February 07th, 2008 | Author:

The award for the longest running song to go around and around in my brain goes to Across the Universe by the Beatles – I’ve been singing it since Monday afternoon. No other songs have been present in my head – I think this is a record! (actually, it IS a record, recorded first in 1968, then again in 1970 on their Let It Be album) 😛 I miss playing records. I used to have this pink portable record player and about 200 records of all kinds when I was a kid, and I’d spend *endless* hours just listening to music and giving all my little toys a ride on the turntable. I do still have a good collection of albums and a record player, so I guess all I need are some speakers. I love the crackling sound that they make, the endless spinning, and of course, listening to 33 1/3 speed records on 45 or even 78 – that could make anyone sound like a chipmunk! (and I think the toys liked it too!)

🙂

ACROSS THE UNIVERSE

Words are flying out like endless rain into a paper cup
They slither while they pass, they slip away across the universe
Pools of sorrow waves of joy are drifting thorough my open mind
Possessing and caressing me

Jai guru deva om
Nothing’s gonna change my world

Images of broken light which dance before me like a million eyes
That call me on and on across the universe
Thoughts meander like a restless wind inside a letter box
They tumble blindly as they make their way across the universe

Jai guru deva om
Nothing’s gonna change my world

Sounds of laughter shades of life are ringing through my open ears
Exciting and inviting me
Limitless undying love which shines around me like a million suns
It calls me on and on across the universe

Jai guru deva om
Nothing’s gonna change my world
Jai guru deva

Spring has sprung!

Tuesday, March 13th, 2007 | Author:

I had a fantastic time this past weekend! I was asked by a friend to do visuals for Naissance in Peterborough and it really gave me some good practice. Ron and Scott came along for support and I learned alot from Scott who sat beside me at times and showed me some good tips on using Resolume and just being a good VJ in general. Scott has had alot of practice and is now working full time as a VJ at a top Toronto club. Way to go Scott! Ron had some videos to show as well, but unfortunately, his computer was having hissy fits and not co-operating with what he wanted to do. He did a great job of taking over for me when I needed a break, and also many thanks for driving us all up to the party! Thanks Ron!! For their first party, this collective did an awesome job! I felt such an honour to be part of it. The psy scene in Peterborough is small but so nice – everyone is super friendly and caring – you can tell they all love each other very much and have been friends for some time. Their local chapter of Food not Bombs supplied an amazing vegan feast for everyone before the actual partying started. The food was SO good and it was so very nice to be able to share food with great people and have some awesome conversations in the meantime. Everyone worked so hard at putting on this party and it sure showed. Thanks to everyone who made this such a fantastic time. YOU ALL ROCKED MY WORLD!!! 🙂

Afterwards, we went to an afterparty where I got the opportunity to get to know some of these great people. It’s so inspiring to see young people work so well together. It sometimes reminds me of the pagananarchovegan days of my early 20’s and some of the things that we used to try to accomplish. It seems this has come full circle for me, but is SO much better than it used to be! YAY!! We headed home in the afternoon so I could go to my brother’s 40th birthday party in the evening. I think this is going to be a very busy spring/summer!

My sister in law put on a fantastic party for my brother. All of our cousins were there, some of our aunts and uncles as well as lots of Phil’s friends and co-workers. The house was full! Happy Birthday Phil!! I hope you are around for a long time yet. I love ya!! We headed back around 11:30 or so, as I was pretty darned tired (hadn’t really slept since Friday morning!) and Rick wanted to head to another party, so he dropped me off, and did dog duty while I fell into bed and dreamt of spinning kaleidoscopes, streaming starscapes, and the summer to come. Sunday was spent with a few friends with the bonus of a walk with the dogs to the mudpit that is Trinity-Bellwoods park. The spring thaw is certainly upon us, and Little Bear and Adhara had a fantastic time running around and getting super wet and muddy. We walked home on the main roads so that they could dry off some before we got back to the house. Nothing like crazy muddy dogs!! (and a good thing too!) as now I have some extra cleaning to do. 🙂

Metamystikal Mystery Tour

Friday, May 19th, 2006 | Author:

We’re throwing a party and we have Magikal Intentions! On June 10th, 2006 Metamystix will be transforming the upstairs floor at the El Mocambo into an immersive and experiencial black light environment filled with unique and original artwork crafted by the Mystchix and friends. Join us in our magikal moonlit forest filled with strange creatures from near and far. This is an intentional gathering of individuals coming together to celebrate the life and diversity on our planet and to look to the skies for inspiration and ideas for the future.

Metamysitx is a collective of friends who are dedicated to creating intentional spaces for magik to happen, transforming the typical party experience into more focused event. People are encouraged to dress up in costume and explore their creativity to bring out their own magikal persona.

With the moon full and bright and the sun gaining strength, we will dance and transcend our bodies and minds, drawing up energy, and making way for growth in our lives. The music will guide us and we will succumb to the beat and there, we will find our own inner rhythm.

I think this is going to be a very special occasion! Hope to see you all there!

FREED-OM

Thursday, May 05th, 2005 | Author:

I post on the Om Message board on a regular basis and this is the entry that I posted regarding the Freespace Beginning of the New World party on Saturday night…

“Another thing I noticed happened for me on this night (that doesn’t *usually* happen at clubs), was the wonderful feeling of FREEDOM.

There is something particularly liberating about dancing outside at a free event. This public place was available to all who made the effort to get there, and it didn’t need to be paid for (except for those who spent their own money to get there or to add to the night in some special way). I found it very satisfying to see a pro-active community working together towards a common goal – it totally rocked!

Also, there is something particularly magical about being in a place that has such natural beauty and energy, where the sounds of the birds mingle with the beats and the sounds of laughter and happy people talking. At some points it didn’t feel like we were in a city at all (especially near a highway!), but rather in a far away, safe, and wonderful place that was accessible to anyone who truly wanted to be there.

And, there is something particularly enlightening in realizing that this CAN and DOES happen inside such a big city that sometimes feels so cold and unfriendly. Thank you Freespace, for expanding my reality once again.”

I also had a wonderful time at the MidiMiliz/BLA event on the Friday night. Now THAT was a psytrance party! woohoo!
